What's New in Toolpath: August 26, 2024

It's been another busy week at Toolpath! We've been out in the community, releasing new features, and continuing our IMTS prep. Scroll down to read more about what we've been up to!

Toolpath Customer Spotlight with Nocturnal Welding

EJ is the owner of a small job shop and a standout member of the #InstaMachinist community. His passion, tenacity, and positive attitude make him a rad example of everything that’s great about our industry.

As a Toolpath customer, EJ has been able to quote parts more accurately and quickly, giving him the confidence to take on more challenging projects. We're stoked to have people like EJ showing the world what this community is all about.

Watch below to see how Toolpath has changed operations at Nocturnal Welding (and see Al training for his next career move).

Toolpath CTO Justin Gray on Within Tolerance

Justin joined the Within Tolerance to chat about how recumbent bicycles shaped his career path, learning to machine and building trust in the manufacturing industry, working with the growing Toolpath team, and the future of Toolpath and CAM programming.

Listen to the episode below and be sure to subscribe to Within Tolerance wherever you listen to podcasts (and come see the podcasting booth at IMTS, with Toolpath in #338248).

Default Stock Oversize Preferences

This is a big one! I'll quote our CCO, Tim Paul, as saying "These little things may seem trivial, but this is game changing for a LOT of shops!" when gushing to the Toolpath Engineering team after seeing the new Stock Oversize preferences.

Toolpath now allows you to define default oversizes and round to nearest settings for automatically generated stock and brings it into Fusion as an "Optimized Stock Body". Check out the video below and the How to set Stock Oversize Preferences for more information. The devil is in the details - now you control the details!

More Compact Machining Strategies

Ever end up with individual operations for each hole you need to drill when exporting your Toolpath results to Fusion? We've been there. Toolpath will now group holes with a common drill when generating operations - cleaning up your Strategy tab and Fusion Manufacture Browser.

Zoom To Cursor

Previously, zoom in the Toolpath part window always zoomed to center. Toolpath intends to make you more productive, which includes providing the UI options necessary to provide the information you need to see. So we added the Zoom to Cursor option, making it easier to view small features and efficiently navigate larger parts.

Default Estimate Presets for Cut Configs

You can now apply default Estimate Presets to specific Cut Configs! For more information on setting up Cut Configs and Estimate Presets, please see How to Create Cut Configs and How to Create Estimate Presets.

New YouTube and Help Center Content

The Toolpath YouTube Channel has a clean new look, making it easier to find the content you are looking for. And we are always adding new content! We've also created some new Help Center articles to make it easier to find and use UX features, like How to Zoom to, Isolate, and View Tool Deviation and How to Rename Parts.

Bug Fixes

  • Sometimes the Strategy view didn't match the Estimate view. No more confusion about what's real - they match now.
  • We fixed several hard errors that prevented Toolpath from generating results for certain parts.
