What happens when a car part hobbyist builds a multimillion-part manufacturing empire without traditional prints? In this episode, Justin from Toolpath visits Jim Belosic at SendCutSend to unpack how personal need sparked a business that’s now reimagining CNC machining with a bold, streamlined vision.
No Prints, No Problem with Jim Belosic episode summary
Jim Belosic didn’t set out to transform CNC manufacturing, he just needed some car parts. Seven years later, he’s the founder of SendCutSend, a high-volume sheet metal and machining shop that’s rethinking how parts get made. In this episode of Chips and Tips, Toolpath CTO Justin sits down with Jim to explore how his team built a modern manufacturing workflow by skipping tradition, embracing challenge, and scaling smart.
"We’ve made over 50 million sheet metal parts with zero prints." - Jim Belosic
What started as a personal project quickly became a full-scale business. Jim shares how sheet metal was the original focus because CNC machining felt too complex and expensive to tackle at the time. But that didn’t stop him. With time, learning, and smart software support, SendCutSend started expanding into CNC, a move Jim admits was both terrifying and thrilling. “Every machinist listening knows: machining is hard,” he laughs. “I didn’t know how to program. I couldn’t afford the machines. So we started with lasers.”
That decision sparked a methodical ramp-up. SenCut built its own infrastructure and tackled 2D complexity first. Now, with five-axis machines and cutting-edge design tools, they’re diving headfirst into CNC with the help of Toolpath. Jim talks about how Toolpath’s AI-powered tools support their push into 3D geometry and machining, giving the team confidence to quote and program with speed and consistency.
One of SenCut’s boldest moves? Ditching prints. “We’ve made over 50 million sheet metal parts with zero prints,” Jim says. “Now we’re applying that same philosophy to machining.” It’s a radical approach in a conservative industry, but Jim sees it as a natural evolution. “We’re not for everyone. But if you’re a guy in your garage who just needs a part-shaped object fast, we’re a great fit.”
"We’re trying to be the In-N-Out Burger of CNC: tiny menu, fast, good, and cheap." - Jim Belosic
This episode is a masterclass in scaling smartly, choosing your battles, and letting curiosity lead the way. It’s also a window into how companies like SendCutSend are partnering with platforms like Toolpath to redefine productivity in manufacturing, no prints required.
