What's new in Toolpath: February 2025

Hey Toolpathers!

February is wrapping up, and the team has been hard at work bringing tons of new features! This month’s update includes improvements to stock pricing, expanded file format support, enhanced threading tools, and a major performance boost for complex parts. Let’s dive into what’s new!

New Features in February

  • Improved Removal Volume Computations for Intermediate Tooling: Leveraging MW technology, toolpath calculations are more efficient and precise, reducing cycle time.

  • Stock Pricing Field in Estimate Preset Now Respects Metric Units: No more manual conversions—now your estimates stay consistent across unit preferences.

  • Multi-File Format Support: You can now import a wider range of file types, including sldprt, x_b, and more, making it easier to work with different CAD software.

  • New Thread Picker! Threads are now directly attached to the model, eliminating errors and saving time.

  • Holes Are Organized by Type and Diameter: Through holes and blind holes are now grouped, making tool selection easier and faster.

  • Tool Compaction: Set a soft limit on the number of tools chosen for a job to streamline programming and reduce tool changes. Check out the video to see it in action!

  • Improved Sketches for Open Pockets and Chamfers: Enhanced visualization and toolpath accuracy.

  • Export Traditional Roughing Paths to Fusion: More seamless integration for roughing strategies.

  • Performance Boosts for Parts with Many Holes: Faster processing for fixture plates and other high-hole-count designs.

  • Optimized Performance for Countersinks: Improved handling for large numbers of countersinks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

  • Integration of the Parasolid CAD Kernel: Provides better overall support for step files and improves CAD compatibility.

  • Support for "Badly" Formatted Preset Names: We now handle trailing and leading spaces in preset names—still no emoji support, though! 😅

  • Infinite Rotation in the 3D Viewer: Rotate your part freely for better visualization and inspection.

  • Improved Add-in Updater: The add-in now automatically downloads and applies updates whenever you restart Fusion, keeping you up to date without extra steps.

  • Pretool Enhancements:

    • Added column filtering for easier navigation.

    • Ability to delete tools and presets directly from Pretool.

    • Import/export tool libraries without needing to download/upload files.

  • Smoother Part Uploads: Closing the upload modal after a green check won’t stop the upload process anymore.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Missing Tool Interrogation Messages: Pocketing and non-machinable features now display the correct messages.

  • Both Roughing and Finishing Messages Now Appear in Tool Interrogation

  • Fixed Open Pocket and Filleted Pocket Tool Matching Errors

  • Resolved Reachability Analysis Bug: Ensured open pockets are properly identified during feature recognition.

  • Fixed Multiple Unit-Related Bugs: Stock size and volume calculations now work correctly in all units.

  • Tool Interrogation Now Displays Roughing Output (Previously, only finishing was shown.)

  • Matched Stepdown Between Toolpath and Fusion: Improves time estimates for machining operations.

  • Stopped Setting Linear Lead-In Distance to Zero

  • Fixed Drill-Based Tool Matching Bu

  • Added FaceRoughing Preset for Face Mills in Pretool

  • Corrected Stock Size Units Bug in the Web App

These updates are all about giving you better control, reducing errors, and improving speed. Stay tuned for more enhancements next month, and let us know what you’d love to see in future releases!

Happy machining!
